Joe Manganiello talks to Greg In Hollywood about old pal Matt Bomer and his “True Blood” character

I must admit, the red carpet at the Human Rights Campaign Gala on Saturday night had been a little lackluster until HE arrived.
Joe Manganiello of True Blood fame not only posed for endless photos, he also took the time to chat with every journalist he could until he was literally pulled away by handlers.
I got in a few questions about his pal Matt Bomer.
He told me he would ‘love’ to have his longtime friend guest star on True Blood.
‘I think he’d be a great vampire,’ Manganiello said. ‘Yeah, totally. We spent 15 years apart after college and then in the past year we got to work together a couple of times. He asked me to come to an episode of White Collar and then we got to work on Magic Mike.’
So what does Manganiello think of Bomer’s decision last month to publicly thank his partner Simon Halls and their kids at an awards dinner, a move that effectively announced to the world that he is gay.
“Matt’s been a friend of mine for a long time,” the actor said. “So I fully support Matt and everything that he does.”
He also spoke a little but about what is in store for his character of werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood.
“Let’s just say this year his balls drop,” the actor said. “He’s not taking anybody’s crap this year. So you’re going to see a real emergence of a hero in the character. We’re also going to go way further than my character went in the books. I can’t say anything more.” [xx]

Joe Manganiello Dishes on “Magic Mike” and the “Season of the Werewolf”
Posted by Melanie Jo with No Comments
As fans eagerly await the return of True Blood’s Season 5 this summer, Joe Manganiello seems to be the most prolific celebrity spoiler for the show. It has been noted that if we were to call season four the season of the witch, season five will be the season of the werewolf. That means a whole host of hot new werewolf cast members. Manganiello told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent (at GQ’s Men of the Year Party in LA) that he’s looking forward to the season. Last season, Alcide “helped end the reign – and life – of packmaster Marcus… and actress Dale Dickey recently joined the cast as Marcus’ – presumably grieving – mom.”
Manganiello said:
“I can’t wait to work with her (Dale Dickey) and I think there’s gonna be some werewolves who are gonna give Alcide some trouble this season, as well. I’m anxious to see who they’ll cast.”The actor has revealed that he’s on par with the fans in wanting to see his character bump nasties with Paquin’s. “Alcide likes Sookie a whole heck of a lot. She’s single, Alcide’s single… I totally want to see them hook up.”
Apparently, Manganiello’s mother is a big Paquin fan as well, and wants to see her son’s character “find love with Bon Temps’ fairy-waitress.”
He also raved about the disastrous return of Russell Edgington. “I love Denis O’Hare,” he said. “Him coming back – it’s not good for Alcide, but it’s definitely good for the show.”
Finally, in a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Manganiello spoke about his role in the new, star-studded, male-stripper movie “Magic Mike” in which he plays Big Dick Richie (Gasp! Drool.) While the movie was “loosely inspired by Channing Tatum’s own past,” the actors were treated to lessons from the likes of Britney Spears’ choreography team. “Body rolls, some hip stuff,” Manganiello mentioned. His costars include Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, and Alex Pettyfer.
I personally am waiting with bated breath for the release of this film (in post-production) along with the return of True Blood, of course. Who’s with me? Leave your thoughts in the comments section, and check out the two full interviews that I have listed as sources if you need anything juicier. [xx]

Lone Wolf

Joe Manganiello was a theater-loving jock who defended the arty kids in school, but never felt he belonged to any clique. Then he was cast in ‘True Blood’ and found his feet—all four of them.
“It was brown, now it’s gray. i don’t know what the hell happened. it seems to me, people like it. Nobody’s complained.”
The actor Joe Manganiello is musing on his beard, the ever-present scruff that contrasts the 35-year-old’s youthful vigor. Like Tom Selleck’s Magnum, P.I. mustache was to the ’80s, Manganiello’s salt-and-pepper beard (heavy on the salt) is becoming the lusty facial hair of this era.
It is mid-morning and Manganiello is sipping an Americano at an outdoor table. The café is a few blocks from his house in the tony Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. His eyes are shielded by black Persol sunglasses. Strands of thick dark hair hang down in front of the lenses and touch his regal nose. He’s wearing a gray T-shirt and jeans. The flashiest part of his outfit are his black and yellow old-school Nike Dunks. Leaning back in a chair, he looks as nondescript as a six-foot-five man can. He is famously fit, but doesn’t stand out as a muscle-bound behemoth.
“If I was on ‘roids, I would be this monster,” he says. “That’s not the goal.”
Born Joseph Michael Manganiello on December 28, 1976 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is an American actor of Italian-Sicilian descent. His parents Charles and Susan were both born in Boston, Massachusetts but moved to Pittsburgh a few years before Joe was born. He has one younger brother, Nicholas, who works behind the scenes in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles.
