Joe Visits With The Cinema Source

Joe visited with The Cinema Source to talk LaBare, True Blood and more with Dan Deevy.  Here’s the video and more from the event.

Joe Manganiello Exclusive Interview – La Bare by thecinemasource

It’s not everyday that one of the most physically perfect men on the planet takes the time to visit your office, so when actor / director Joe Manganiello stopped by the TCS Studio last week to chat about his new film La Bare, we made sure to document each and every moment of the experience.  La Bare is an insider’s look at the history, the lives and the culture of the most popular male strip club in the world, La Bare Dallas.   Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike) steps behind the camera for La Bare, a documentary film that goes behind the curtain, behind the stage and behind the magic of the world’s most popular male strip club – La Bare Dallas.

Produced by Joe Manganiello & Nick Manganiello with 3:59 INCORPORATED. Distributed by Main Street Films.Featuring a unique ensemble of the club’s most popular dancers, La Bare takes a provocative look into their rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and offers a front row seat to their lives, loves, laughs and losses.  Since the birth of the male review in the late 1970s, the greatest male strippers in the world can all be traced back to one club… La Bare Dallas.   These are the true stories behind the magic of the men and women of La Bare. Directed by Joe Manganiello (True BloodMagic Mike).

Quotes from Director/Producer, Joe Manganiello (True BloodMagic Mike):

“When I got the call letting me know that not only was Stephen Soderbergh not retiring but that he was offering me the role of “Big Dick Richie” in his new movie about male strippers, Magic Mike, I honestly didn’t know what to think. I, like most of the mass general public was full of pre-conceived notions about the profession of male entertainment.”

“Throughout all of Magic Mike‘s success, the one prevailing compliment/complaint I received from just about everyone who saw the film was that they wanted more of the guys. People were unanimously interested in knowing more about our characters, who they were, where they lived, how they grew up, who they dated, etc. So, when my brother and I started our production company 3:59 in the late fall of last year, we decided that as our first order of business, we’d take a small crew to Dallas to see if we could find a story capable of satisfying everyone’s curiosity. What we found was a goldmine.”

“In La Bare, we set out to give audiences a privileged, behind the curtains look at one of the most mysterious and misunderstood professions that has ever existed and what we uncovered was something that transcended anything we could have ever hoped for. Lucky for us we had the cameras pointed in the right direction.”

La Bare marks the feature film directorial debut for Manganiello.

He is best known to audiences for his roles as “Big Dick Richie” in Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper phenomena Magic Mike and as werewolf “Alcide Herveaux,” on HBO’s True Blood for which he has won both critical and popular praise. In 2012 the readers of Entertainment Weekly Magazine voted him, “Favorite Pop-Culture Werewolf of All Time.”

2013 saw Manganiello publish his first book, EVOLUTION through Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books to overwhelming demand, forcing a second print within its first week of release.  He holds a BFA in Acting from The Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and could most recently be seen on stage as “Stanley Kowalski” at the Yale Repertory Theatre’s first ever production of A Streetcar Named Desirethis past fall.

Recently, he was seen alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington as DEA Agent “Joseph “Grinder” Phillips,” in writer/director David Ayer‘s film Sabotage and reprised his role as “Alcide Herveaux” for the final season of HBO’s True BloodManganiello is the President/CEO of 3:59 INCORPORATED, a production company with a full slate of projects in development for 2014 that he runs alongside his brother/producing partner Nick Manganiellobased out of Los Angeles.

Video: Joe on Larry King Now

Joe Manganiello recently sat down with Larry King on his Emmy nominated series “Larry King Now” to discuss his directorial debut “La Bare” showcasing the world of male exotic dancing, the end of “True Blood”, what very personal item he took with him from set and his special new romance with Sofia Vergara. Joe was also recently named People Magazine’s ‘Hollywood’s Hottest Bachelor’.

The ‘Bachelor’ told Larry that he felt “True Blood” “opened up a whole world for me” and discussed how special it was and also responded to how flattering the fans reactions were to Alcide’s death. “I’m kind of taken aback. I hope nobody does anything too drastic. I mean, getting drunk and howling at the moon, I’m all for. He was a big hearted character. I love those characters and I look for those characters.” He also discussed ‘Magic Mike’, the upcoming sequel and his take on Channing Tatum’s success.

The news of his relationship with Emmy winner Sofia Vergara has been swirling around town. “She became single and I knew I had a very small window of opportunity and I wasn’t going to let it go and I just went after it.”

Joe Manganiello wrapped up his interview by answering social media questions from some of his biggest fans including what he was going to do if he weren’t an actor, spoiler: he wanted to be a man in uniform.
